My most recent paintings hover between representation and abstraction. I work through a layered, responsive process, often beginning with gesso subtraction and mark-making before building depth with charcoal, ink, and acrylic, and finishing with oil paint. Nature is a constant influence—at times there is a suggestion of water catching light, while in other moments the imagery dissolves into the pure joy of movement of paint with tools like a colour shaper, rag or palette knife.
