Every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up - Pablo Picasso

Oh how wonderfully free children’s brush strokes are . As an Art Teacher I spend much of my time trying to loosen adults up to paint as we naturally did as children .

At what age do we become such perfectionists and hung up on rules? At what age do children begin to see their drawings through the eyes of the adults around them and want their paintings to look… dare I say it .. “real” ?

Pablo Picasso’s famous quote, “Every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up,” reflected his belief that children possess a unique creative innocence that is often lost in adulthood .

Walk into any early childhood centre and see children intuitively pick up a paint brush and paint.. no instruction ..it comes as easy to them as breathing .

I need to remember this as I’m teaching my youngest of creatives techniques and perspectives . I need to allow them the freedom to create without fear of being wrong or being judged.
